REDLANDS MAYOR PETE AGUILAR CALLS ON US SUPREME COURT TO MAKE MARRIAGE EQUALITY THE LAW OF THE LAND

(San Bernardino, CA) — With the US Supreme Court preparing to rule on the constitutionality of Proposition 8 in California, Mayor of Redlands Pete Aguilar launched an online petition drive today asking voters to join him in calling on the High Court to finally allow every couple across the United States to be able to make a lifetime commitment to the person they love that is recognized under the law.

In his call to action, Aguilar is quoted as saying:

“Let’s stand united in calling on the Supreme Court to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) as well as California’s Proposition 8. I’m proud to stand with the millions of Californians who believe that anyone, gay or straight, should be able to participate in a lifelong commitment to the person they love. If you agree, please join me in calling on the Supreme Court to overturn DOMA and Prop 8.

My hope is that very soon we’ll be able to issue marriage licenses to committed couples regardless of their sexual orientation. I look forward to the day when all San Bernardino County married couples, gay or straight, are afforded the same benefits. And as Mayor of Redlands, I can’t wait for the opportunity to attend wedding ceremonies for those that I love and care about, without exclusion.”

Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar is a fourth generation resident of the Inland Empire and candidate for the 31st Congressional district.
