Pete Aguilar Statement on Paycheck Fairness Act

(San Bernardino, CA) – Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar, a Democratic candidate for Congress in California’s 31st district, released the following statement on Equal Pay Day 2014:

“It’s inexcusable that gender inequality persists in the workplace, with women, on average, earning just 77 cents for every dollar earned by men. And with countless families in San Bernardino County struggling to make ends meet, ending gender based pay discrimination is critical to rebuilding the middle class and strengthening our communities. It’s time for Congress to do the right thing and immediately pass the Paycheck Fairness Act to ensure that all American workers receive equal pay for equal work.”

The Paycheck Fairness Act would strengthen the penalties courts can impose for pay discrimination, and forbids retaliation against workers that inquire or disclose information about employers’ wage practices.

Pete Aguilar is a small business owner and Mayor of Redlands. He is a strong advocate for economic growth and fairness in the Inland Empire and a leader who has reached across party lines to serve the best interests of middle-class families.
