Pete Aguilar Says Congressman Miller ‘Missing in Action’ On Government Shutdown

(San Bernardino, CA) — Noting Congressman Gary Miller’s party-line votes that have led to a federal government shutdown over Republican opposition to the Affordable Care Act, Pete Aguilar today issued the following statement:

“Congressman Miller has allowed our government to shut down because he opposes a law that will improve health care for millions of Americans. Shutting down the government because you don’t want people to have access to affordable health care is beyond reprehensible. This is a new low, even for Congressman Miller and his Tea Party colleagues.

“Inland Empire families deserves real leadership in Congress, and I’m calling on Congressman Miller to serve his constituents by doing the right thing – work to end the shutdown immediately.”

The federal government shutdown, the first in nearly two decades, is expected to slow the nation’s economic recovery and carries an estimated price tag of $2 billion, according to the Office of Management and Budget.

Pete Aguilar is a small business owner and Mayor of Redlands. He is a strong advocate for economic growth and fairness in the Inland Empire, a leader who has reached across party lines to serve the best interests of middle-class families. Working with Democrats and Republicans, Aguilar has balanced Redlands’ budget for the past four years.
