Pete Aguilar Receives Backing Of California Democratic Party For CD 31 Seat

(San Bernardino, CA) – Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar, a candidate for Congress in California’s 31st Congressional District, has received the official endorsement of the California Democratic Party, which held its state convention in Los Angeles this weekend.

“As someone who’s held true to the Democratic principles of justice and fairness, and believes that everyone benefits when we stand for commonsense, middle-class values, I’m gratified and honored to have the support of the California Democratic Party for my campaign for Congress,” Aguilar said.

Aguilar received the support of 74 percent of the party delegates versus 18 percent for Eloise Reyes. The state party’s endorsement is a major coup for Aguilar’s campaign, running in a newly open seat where Democrats hold a seven point registration advantage over Republicans, and where President Obama won by a 15 percent margin in 2012.

Aguilar’s backing by the state party follows several key endorsements in recent weeks, including U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, 15 members of Congress from California, as well as the Central Labor Council (AFL-CIO) of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties and the California League of Conservation Voters.

Pete Aguilar is a small business owner and Mayor of Redlands. He is a strong advocate for economic growth and fairness in the Inland Empire, a leader who has reached across party lines to serve the best interests of middle-class families.

As Mayor, Aguilar helped balance the last four city budgets, turning its multi-million dollar deficit into a surplus and improving the city’s credit rating. Aguilar also led efforts to make Redlands more attractive to businesses and improve San Bernardino County’s infrastructure.
