A Broad Coalition of Regional Leaders Back Pete Aguilar For Congress

Endorsements Come From Elected, Business, Labor and Community Leaders

(San Bernardino, CA) – In a sign of growing momentum for Pete Aguilar’s campaign for Congress in California’s 31st district, a broad coalition of the region’s leaders have formally endorsed Aguilar’s congressional bid, his campaign announced today.

Dr. Gloria Macias Harrison, a trustee for the San Bernardino Community College District, said, “Whether the issue is helping our young people get access to higher education or supporting measures that respect the privacy of women’s health decisions, Pete has the progressive values and commonsense leadership that Inland Empire families need in a member of Congress.”

“San Bernardino County has been hurt by Congress’ inability to work together in a bipartisan way,” added James Ramos, a supervisor for San Bernardino County. “Pete Aguilar has a proven record of bridging party differences to get things done for Redlands and the region, and that’s the kind of leadership we desperately need in Washington.”

“I’m supporting Pete Aguilar because he knows that good-paying jobs are the lifeblood of every community in San Bernardino County. He’ll make job creation a top priority as a member of Congress,” said Bill Lathrop, President of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1167.

Commenting on the dozens of local leaders backing his candidacy today, Pete Aguilar said, “I’m thankful for the support of leaders whose work is so critical to the vitality of our region. The message they’ve shared with me is clear. Let’s end the partisan bickering, move our economy forward and put the needs of Inland Empire families first.”

The backing of Aguilar by nearly 100 regional leaders today builds on the campaign’s strong progress in recent weeks, including the support of key California leaders such as United States Senator Dianne Feinstein, Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom and more than a dozen members of Congress from California. The Aguilar campaign also holds a significant fundraising advantage over his Democratic rivals.

Pete Aguilar is a small business owner and Mayor of Redlands. He is a strong advocate for economic growth and fairness in the Inland Empire, a leader who has reached across party lines to serve the best interests of middle-class families.

As Mayor of Redlands, Aguilar has forged commonsense solutions that have improved the city’s economy, created jobs and strengthened vital services. He has balanced the city’s budget for four consecutive years, turning its multi-million dollar deficit into a surplus and improving the city’s credit rating.
